Drawing on LifeWhilst studying art and Romantics at the Sorbonne under the tutilage
of Cadmium Scarlet, Inky Mitch was fortunate to brush shoulders with
fellow students Rose Madder, Gummy Arabic, Venetian Red and Olive Green. He also dabbled with Naples yellow and was drawn upon by Permanent Rose.
Many happy hours were spent by the Bohemians in the Cafe Indigo,
near Hookers Green, discussing life, the universe and the price of frites, whilst being serenaded by the nasal warblings of Opera Rose, the barmaid
and part time diva. Lashings of absinthe and Prussian Blue were quoffed untill the small wee hours, and then breakfast was served, often as not kippers on toast.
It was on such a morning as this, fuelled by a cup or two of Raw Sienna, that Inky’s colourful imagination was set free to wander and Kipper Designs was born.
Ian grew up in Liverpool and studied art and design at Art college.
After obtaining his degree he worked for several years in advertising
before moving to London and setting up as a freelance illustrator.
Over the years he has been commissioned by many publishers, advertising
agencies and design groups for his lively and spontaneous illustrations. His work has been published in various magazines and newspapers such as The Sunday Times and the New York Post.
He now lives in the Midlands with his family and his little girl is working
hard as his young apprentice.
He set up Kipper Designs with Heather Manning, an old friend from
Liverpool.
